The long story is that I inherited of my uncle Michel’s whole record collection — in very condition too! He’s gone digital, and me, I have no room anywhere anymore…
That’s when I stumbled upon the record that started it all: Elvis’ Golden Records!
I first heard Elvis when I was eight, on this same record. I didn’t remember the cover, but I know I liked the music. This is no slobbish Vegas stuff — just the young, daring, pre-Hollywood, pre-military service Elvis.
The guy was incredible. Not many performers ever had that kind of magnetism — except maybe Mick Jagger or Michael Jackson. Also, he was an avid musician, a walking jukebox really. And the voice — deep, expressive, sexy… Oh my, I better stop right here!
One good thing is that nowadays, we see a lot less nutcase Elvis wannabe impersonators — so maybe now we can forget about all the golden wedding cake esthetics, and rediscover the flaming young cat within.
Oh yeah!
